Nursing jobs can cover a wide range of different roles. Opportunities range from varied work as a registered general nurse (RGN) to specialised work as a registered learning disability nurse (RNLD), mental health nurse (RMN), or a theatre nurse. Nurses are an essential part of the public and private health service and are increasingly being relied upon to provide vital care giving services to patients with a variety of different needs. Registered nurses are supported by auxiliary nurses, officially known as healthcare assistants (HCAs).
In the UK you must be registered with the Nursing and Midwifery Council (NMC) in order to be eligible for most nursing jobs. This applies not only for RGN jobs but also for bank nurse jobs, RNLD jobs, ANP jobs, theatre nurse jobs, and RMN jobs. There are over 618,000 people currently registered with the NMC.
By virtue of the fact that you must be registered with the Nursing and Midwifery Council to be eligible for nursing jobs you must also hold an accepted degree from an approved educational institution (AEI). Acceptance onto such a course necessitates that you are able to pass a Disclosure and Barring Service check while registration with the NMC requires that you have good health and good character.
Similarly dental nurse jobs will require prior registration with the General Dental Council (GDC) and a GDC approved qualification. The only nursing jobs which do not require specific approved qualifications and registration with a governing council are auxiliary nurse jobs. Auxiliary nurse jobs may be found listed as healthcare assistant jobs or care assistant jobs.
